OPW to host public consultation on Ballina flooding

The people of Ballina will get their chance to engage with the Office of Public Works when they host a public consultation day next month in Ballina in relation to a draft flood risk map for the town. The consultation day will take place on Tuesday November 11 at the civic offices in Ballina, where members of the public can meet with officials from the OPW and experts from the specialist consultant, JBA Consulting, who will also be in attendance.

North Mayo to get a greenway along the Moy

There was good news for the north Mayo area with the announcement yesterday of an allocation of €250,000 seed money to begin construction on a 14 km greenway from Ballina to Killala along the River Moy. The greenway will incorporate an off road cycle track and walk and will incorporate a number of monasteries along the river. It is envisioned that this 14km stretch will be the first phase of a multi-phase greenway in the larger north Mayo area.

Clarke throws his hat in for Ballina area

Sitting Ballina Town Councillor, Peter Clarke has thrown his hat in the ring for this month’s local elections declaring in the Ballina Municipal District. Setting out his reasons for going forward for election he said, “I am a native of O’Rahilly Street, Ballina and have been involved in politics for the last 24 years. For the last 10 years I have been elected to Ballina Town Council working for the betterment of Ballina and north Mayo. If elected to Mayo County Council my aims are to reduce the commercial rates of businesses and to make sure the ratepayers’ money stays in Mayo.”
